The Australian Synchrotron’s new Store.Synchrotron facility is a world-first storage, sharing, and reuse environment for synchrotron experiment data. Currently hosted at Monash University, Store.Synchrotron has been allocated storage on VicNode, the RDSI funded Node operated by the University of Melbourne and Monash University.
The Australian Synchrotron
The Australian Synchrotron is the largest stand-alone piece of scientific infrastructure in the southern hemisphere. The intense beams of light produced by the synchrotron can reveal “the innermost, sub-microscopic secrets of the materials under investigation, from human tissue, to plants, to metals, and more.”1 In the six years since it began operating, researchers have published more than 1000 papers using the facility.

DHA 2014 is hotting up to be one of the biggest digital humanities events of 2014 in Australasia. This will be the second event of the Australasian Association for Digital Humanities: http://aa-dh.org/ and is being hosted in conjunction with iVEC and The University of Western Australia.

The workshop programme is also available and will feature a variety of topics including archaeology, photogrammetry and literary amongst others. It will also feature a demonstration of the NeCTAR Funded Virtual Laboratory, HuNI.

‘The Data Sharing Community: Playing YOUR Part’
The Australian National Data Service and the Research Data Alliance invite you to join the 3rd RDA Plenary.
As Australians working with research data, your expertise is wanted to help accelerate international data-driven innovation and discovery by facilitating research data sharing and exchange, use and reuse, standards harmonisation, and discoverability.
The RDA 3rd Plenary program contains a mixture of keynotes, panels, networking, working and interest groups as well as ‘Birds of a Feather’ sessions on topics ranging from agriculture to particle physics, and from humanities to bioinformatics. All parts of the data lifecycle are addressed, from foundational data terminology to data publication and reuse.

“Big Data meets Computational Science”
The International Conference on Computational Science is an annual conference that brings together researchers from various application areas who are pioneering computational methods in sciences such as physics, chemistry, life sciences, and engineering, as well as in arts and humanitarian fields, along with researchers and scientists from mathematics and computer science as basic computing disciplines. This mixture of computational researchers are able to discuss problems and solutions in their areas, identify new issues, and to shape future directions for research.
We are now accepting papers for the main track and conference workshops. The main track deadline is 15th December, while workshop deadlines vary.
Please take the opportunity to experience this international conference as it visits Australia in 2014.

The RDSI/CAUDIT Vendor panel continues to accept RFP proposals on an ongoing basis. The panel has been set up to support the procurement of data storage infrastructure by the RDSI Nodes, higher-education and research sector in Australia and New Zealand.
Vendor Panel applicants can apply any time and will be assessed in accordance with the compliance and evaluation criteria by an independent Vendor Panel Evaluation Committee
Current members will remain on the Vendor Panel and do not need to reapply.
