SUMMARY:The Australian Globus Pilot 2021
DESCRIPTION:Mr Ryan Fraser1, Mr Chris Myers1\n1Aarnet, Perth, Australia\nTo make the most of the extremely high-bandwidth network capacity that we have in Australia in the research and education sector; a uniform, parallel and secure data transfer and management service is needed. Too often, Australian researchers resort to using portable storage devices to move data around as transfers fail. Generally, the read/write operations of source and destinations are not up to the speed to which data volumes transfer on the network and hence data or packets are lost, resulting incomplete data for researchers to analyse.\nAARNet is piloting Globus in 2021/22. Globus is a data transfer service that provides fast, parallel and secure file transfers and data management; it is well equipped to support researchers in meeting their transfer and data movement needs. Deployment of Globus across Australia, would also standardise transfer endpoints across the research and education sector’s facilities.\nWe will present the early results and learnings of the utilisation of the service, along with future-plans for rollout across Australia to support growing data needs of institutional researchers. Further, we will highlight the opportunities this service present for other developers of services and Institutions.\n\nBiography:\nRyan Fraser has had a career working with many amazing researchers, developers and analysts in multiple sectors delivering innovative solutions to support industry and research programs. Ryan currently has the privilege to continue his career at AARNet and support an amazing team delivering eInfrastructure for the Australian R&E sector\n
