Traditional Key Performance Indicators (KPI) focus on infrastructure usage and financial return-on-investment (ROI), but fall short in capturing other critical aspects of eResearch — engage, empower and support researchers to maximise research output.\nMethod\nIn 2020, we introduced Key Value Indicators (KVI), which supplements KPI in providing a richer framework for reporting the value of eResearch services. The proposed model considers the number of publications in which members of eResearch team are named in acknowledgements or as co-authors. The model further links these research outputs with training by evaluating the number of collaborators met through our courses. To provide consolidated information, we have developed a system that logs the eResearch support activities in a granular fashion.\nResult\nWe have operationalised the definition of value (KVIs) for our research support activities and training. The system includes a streamlined process for documenting the processes at every stage of the research support lifecycle. We start by establishing the training registration process where researchers provide details on their research discipline, how they heard about training, etc. Furthermore, we identify where there is a need for post-training research support. We have now also engineered a system for harvesting the post-training research support activities and their details.\nConclusion\nThis presentation introduces the harvesting system and its usefulness in facilitating performance reporting, followed by a discussion on the future of the design and the value definition of eResearch services.\n\nBiography:\nGhulam Murtaza is a Systems and Networks researcher by training. He has more than 15 years of experience in cross-disciplinary research. For the last 6+ years, Ghulam has been working in the eResearch sector where he has worked across multiple universities to help them build their eResearch capability and capacity.\nMarium Afzal Khan is the eResearch Analyst from Intersect at the University of Adelaide. She has over 7 years of experience incorporating technology and data analytics across multiple industries including education, health, governance and research. Marium has a background in computer science with a Masters in Educational Technology.\nAidan Wilson has been with Intersect’s Services Team since 2015 and is eResearch Analyst for ACU. He has been central to the Intersect Training platform throughout that time, and manages the systems supporting training administration. At ACU he provides a range of support to researchers, including REDCap, data management, and compute consulting.\nJerry Lai is an eResearch Analyst at Deakin University and Intersect Australia. Jerry has a background in psychological science and statistics. He has a passion for data-driven storytelling through which, he helps develop insights into new questions and practices.
