SUMMARY:MyTardis at the University of Auckland – retrospective
DESCRIPTION:Mr Noel Zeng1, Ms Yvette Wharton1, Dr Chris Seal1, Dr Mike Laverick1\n1University Of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand\nThe University of Auckland is continuing to implement a centralised data repository for storing data generated by the multitude of scientific instruments used in our research. Since last year, we have been using MyTardis as the basis for the platform. We have been extending it to meet the needs of local research groups by adding and modifying functionalities in coordination with the wider community.\nWe would like to report back on the significant additions we have made to the University of Auckland instance of MyTardis this year. This includes the ability to select and send data objects via Globus to compute endpoints, such as University-hosted virtual machines for research, or New Zealand’s high performance computing cluster, New Zealand eScience Infrastructure (NeSI). We will also report on other enhancements made.\nWe will share our reflections on the experience of merging the feature changes into the community edition MyTardis. We created significant modifications to the codebase last year, for example adding a project model, fine-grained access authorisation via access control lists (ACLs), and a data search by metadata feature. This year we have worked on bringing those features into the community MyTardis, making them optional in order to work with existing deployments with minimal impact.\n\nBiography:\nNoel is an eResearch Solutions Specialist at the Centre for eResearch, University of Auckland, interested in applying the principles of participatory design, accessibility and equity to create inclusive services that better support researchers. With experience in software development, he is currently working on the university’s instrument data platform and the ResearchHub project. https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9146-4617\nMike is a former astrophysicist turned eResearch Solutions Specialist at the University of Auckland. He completed his PhD at KU Leuven, Belgium, before moving to New Zealand and joining the Centre for eResearch.
