SUMMARY:Exploring the connections between ORCID and other identifiers using Augment API
DESCRIPTION:Mr. Peter Vats1, Dr Martin Fenner2, A/Prof. Amir Aryani3, Dr Jingbo Wang4, Mr Melroy Almeida5\n1Research Graph Foundation, Mulgrave, Australia\n2Front Matter, Münster, Germany\n3Swinburne University of Technology, Hawthorn, Australia\n4National Computational Infrastructure (NCI), Acton, Australia\n5Australian Access Federation, Brisbane, Australia\nThis presentation aims to explore the connections between ORCID and other persistent identifiers such as DOIs and ROR. The interconnected network of scholarly works provides valuable insights into the connections between researchers, their collaborations and their research outcome. The majority of this network is publicly accessible via the links captured in the metadata records of open persistent identifiers. The main challenges are linking this information across multiple sources, identifying incomplete information, and resolving conflicts.\nWe will address these challenges by exploring the current network of links between ORCID, WikiData, GRID, ROR, ISNI, Fundref, Crossref, DataCite and other open persistent identifiers. Also, we will focus on this network for Australian researchers, and discuss the scope, scale and gaps of the available data.\nFurthermore, we will demonstrate how to use ORCID and Augment API to:\n(a) extract the graph of publications, DOIs, and organisations connected to researchers, and\n(b) use the extracted data to paint a picture of a collaboration graph of a research group.\nIn addition, we will discuss the challenge of linking researchers and organisations when the organisation identifiers are missing from the graph.\n\nBiography:\nPeter Vats is the Executive Director of Research Graph Foundation. The Research Graph Foundation is a not-for-profit and collaborative venture to connect scholarly records across global research repositories. The Foundation contributes to developing capabilities that transform disconnected and siloed research activities into a connected network of scholarly works. Peter has been a Director and Senior Project lead for the past 20 years, with duties including strategic consulting and leading projects. He has worked at various Australian universities, government departments and corporates.\n
