SUMMARY:Creating national capability in secure research
DESCRIPTION:Ms Jo Dalvean1, Ms Anitha Kannan1\n1Monash University, Melbourne, Australia\nThe Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) Secure eResearch Platform (SeRP) project is a national collaboration to deliver a secure, trusted and scalable environment for data governance, control and management services for data custodians and secure remote data analysis environments for research users.\nSuch an environment is needed to overcome significant barriers to making sensitive data FAIR, providing assurances to other data custodians regarding confidential and secure data handling, and ensuring researchers comply with ethical and regulatory requirements.\nThe service is onboarding pilot research projects with key users who are part of the project team and with a user community that spans research, government and health services.\nThe project has established a governance structure comprising an advisory panel, committees and working groups. A national Community of Practice has been established to ensure that the project outcomes are maintained and the momentum created during the funding window is sustained. The membership of these groups is a combination of representative and skills-based members to ensure stakeholder buy-in, and expertise for strategic decision making & project delivery.\nUnderpinned by ISO27001 accredited infrastructure, SeRP@Curtin & Monash SeRP demonstrate institutional capacity to offer one of the most secure data analytic environments in Australia for the storage and use of sensitive research data for collaborations between research, government and industry.\nThis project will expand this capability to Queensland and New South Wales institutions and provide a strong foundation to build a federated or confederated model.\n\nBiography:\nJo Dalvean joined Helix in early 2021 as a Technical Project Manager, overseeing multiple initiatives improving Monash’s sensitive data research capabilities. Helix is a Monash Technology Research Platform, developing Monash University’s sensitive research data capabilities through flagship health research projects.\nhttps://orcid.org/0000-0002-7502-3202\n
