SUMMARY:Building a Community of Practice to support scalable governance and the management of FAIR sensitive data use
DESCRIPTION:Dr Jenni Harrison1, Professor Suzanne Robinson1, Ms Kirsten Jackson2, Mr Matthew Gorringe2\n1Curtin University, Bentley, Australia\n2Sax Institute, Glebe, Australia\nIntroduction\nResearchers need to be able to access secure and robust data analysis platforms to support the investigation of sensitive data. Data Custodians require a robust, accredited, regulated and functional analysis environment to satisfy governance requirements and enable the safe release of data to researchers.\nMethods\nThe Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) recently awarded funding to the Scalable Governance, Control & Management of FAIR Sensitive Research Data Project. Through this project various Communities of Practice (CoP) have been created including the ‘Data Custodian’ CoP.  The remit of the CoP includes enabling training, knowledge sharing, the development and dissemination of best practices/principles to promote secure data use by researchers.\nResult\nThis interactive Birds of a Feather will facilitate the eResearch community to:\n\nLearn about the ARDC-funded national project\nDiscuss best practice and principles in data sharing\nGet involved by providing comment on what may (or may not) be effective, truly co-designing training resources\nGuide the CoP with real-world examples on how to reduce complexity and barriers for those undertaking collaborative sensitive data research\nComment on ways in which to make the impact of this CoP sustainable (beyond existing funding streams)\nRegister interest in joining to Data Custodian CoP\n\nConclusion\nThe results of the BoF session will be shared using an online platform (TBC) after the event. Engaged stakeholders will be invited to continue the discussion after the event, contributing to the development of best practices and principals, supporting knowledge sharing in the eResearch community.\n\nBiography:\nJenni is a passionate digital technology leader and role model. A PhD-qualified medicinal chemist and MSc qualified in digital education, Jenni previously delivered national multi-institution digital projects advancing healthcare for NHS Scotland, before becoming Head of Data at the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre (CSIRO) and subsequently the Director of Strategic Projects and Engagement at Pawsey.  She is passionate about data, and in particular in relation to health and in recently concluded a consulting role with Data 61 (CSIRO) examining risk associated with sensitive data release, before commencing her present role as Head of the Centre for Data Linkage at Curtin University.\n
