SUMMARY:Launching AusGeochem: the AuScope Geochemistry Network’s laboratory data platform
DESCRIPTION:Dr Bryant Ware1, Dr Alexander  Prent1, Dr Samuel Boone2, Mr Hayden Dalton2, Dr Guillaume Florin3, Dr Yoann Greau3, Dr Fabian Kohlmann4, Mr Moritz Theile4, Dr Wayne Noble4, Dr Erin Matchan2, Prof Barry Kohn2, Prof Andrew Gleadow2, Prof Brent McInnes1\n1John de Leater Centre, Curtin University, Perth, Australia\n2School of Earth Sciences, University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia\n3Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia\n4Lithodat Pty Ltd, Melbourne, Australia\nWith the development of the AusGeochem platform, the AuScope Geochemistry Network (AGN) and collaborator Lithodat facilitate better organisation, coordination and ability to share data produced by Australian geochemistry laboratories. Aligning with the AGN’s mission to promote (i) Australia’s existing geochemical capability and (ii) capital/operational investments in new/advanced geochemical infrastructure; support (iii) increased end user access to laboratory facilities and (iv) professional development; as well as (v) foster a FAIR Australian geochemistry data ecosystem; AusGeochem provides a central repository allowing laboratories to upload, archive, disseminate and publish their datasets.\nWith the help of AuScope Expert Groups (AEGs) of geochemical specialists from a number of Australian institutions, common technique specific interlaboratory metadata templates and data models are being built. AusGeochem currently functions as a sample (metadata) repository with IGSN minting capability and a SIMS U-Pb data repository. The expansion of AusGeochem will include fission track and (U-Th-Sm)/He, LA-ICP-MS U-Pb and Lu-Hf, 40Ar/39Ar data models, with more high value data types on the horizon (stable isotopes, TIMS).\nWhen users upload sample metadata to AusGeochem, laboratory staff performing the analyses can upload the finished data directly into the platform, simultaneously linking the analyses to the sample metadata. With the ability to perform statistical analyses, novel capabilities to visualise and synthesis data within the context of large volumes of aggregated publicly funded geochemical data, AusGeochem will provide a powerful all-purpose geochemistry research tool and key resource in quantitatively understanding Earth system processes, utilising world-class data produced by and facilitating collaborations between Australian geochemistry laboratories.\n\nBiography:\nI am an isotope geochemist at the John de Laeter Centre, recently joining the AusGechemistry Network team as a Thermal Ionisation Mass Spectrometry specialist.\nhttps://orcid.org/0000-0002-3907-4344\n
