Research Day:  The 2014 conference will feature a ‘Research day’, which concentrates on how researchers and support staff use technology to support their discoveries.  Research day will include a range of presentations, forums and demonstrations that will illustrate the importance of technology within the research sector and importantly how to utilise these technologies.  Research day will be run on Tuesday 28th October, and we aim to run research related workshops on the Monday to tie in with this theme.

RDSI Story – Global research on greenhouse gases

Twenty years of daily atmospheric measurements contribute to global research on greenhouse gases.

RDSI-funded storage at Intersect is helping Professor David Griffith at the University of Wollongong contribute to an international effort to understand changes in greenhouse gases and ozone in the atmosphere, and how these may affect our climate, our environment, our weather, and our health.

Every sunny day since 1995, a sensing station in Wollongong has recorded the spectrum in the column of atmosphere above it, using a technique known as high resolution solar Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.

Professor Griffith’s Atmospheric Chemistry and Spectroscopy Research Group operate the sensing station, in addition to one in Darwin that has been running since 2005…

AARNET CLOUDSTOR UPGRADED

The AARNet CloudStor service has been upgraded to the 1.6-rc1 version. Thanks again for your feedback: a good deal of it is reflected in new functionality.

Major changes are:

  • a completely rewritten upload module that should yield noticeably better upload speeds
  • the ability to resume file uploads (provided you’re using an HTML5 browser)
  • autocompletion of frequently-used recipient email addresses

Full feature list here: https://www.assembla.com/spaces/file_sender/wiki/Features_1-6

CloudStor continues to live at https://cloudstor.aarnet.edu.au/

The interface has remained essentially identical, so we expect you’ll be able to continue using any existing user guides your institute may have prepared.

We’re quite keen to hear what sorts of upload speeds you’re seeing in the field, particularly if you’ve noticed a significant change; if you could, please report speed (Mbit/s) and your physical location if you have a moment to spare.
