Concept mapping across Reproducible Research, Data Management and Sensitive data

Situation
Across all disciplines, there is a growing interest in online content development and resources, workshops and education material around data management, reproducible research and sensitive data handling. Researchers are becoming more aware of the risks around non-open data, and of business continuity (or potential lack of) when staff and HDR students leave.
Task and Action
Data management will focus generally on data whilst reproducibility tends to centre strongly on analysis and workflow basis – both facets, however, are deeply interconnected. Sensitive data will generally have overlap on both facets and similarly we’ve noticed strong commonalities when discussing data management and documenting with research/potential eLabNotebook projects.
At Griffith university, we have been creating content around data management, reproducibility and sensitive data. Additionally, QCIF customized a sensitive data workshop based on the Five Safes framework, for our specific policies and resources at Griffith.
Working across eResearch and The Library, we drafted a concept map across commonalities and intersections across all three topics. Our intent is to have this concept map for consideration in future work.
Results
We’d like to share our learnings across these areas, and concept mapping showing common topics across all three themes. We would like to open the floor in this session to suggestions and discussion.
Biography:
Amanda Miotto is an eResearch Analyst for Griffith University and QCIF. She started off in the field of Bioinformatics and learnt to appreciate the beauty of science before discovering the joys of coding. She aims to bring ideas and resources to researchers previously unavailable to accelerate their projects.
Julie Toohey is a Library Research Data Specialist at Griffith University Library. Julie works closely with Griffith eResearch delivering education programs around on managing data, reproducible research and working with sensitive data. Julie has co-authored several research data publications with Griffith partners.
