Abstract:
DataHarvest is a partnership between the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), the Curtin Centre for Crop Disease and Management and Curtin University Library aimed at advancing the management of grains research, development, and extension (RD&E) data for Australian grain growers. This initiative will enhance the expertise of over 80 GRDC research partners nationwide to help them expertly collect, manage, and share grains RD&E data in a standardised manner, adhering to the FAIR principles—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.
Building on the successes of the GRDC’s Data Partnership Initiative, which involved 12 partners developing best practices and locating valuable data, DataHarvest will extend these efforts to a broader range of GRDC’s partners. This $2.9 million co-investment, with $1.3 million from GRDC, aims to unlock the full potential of RD&E data, facilitating faster knowledge sharing, and innovation, and avoiding duplication of efforts.
This initiative promises significant advancements in research outcomes, benefiting Australian grain growers through more efficient delivery of new knowledge and RD&E outputs. By embracing FAIR principles and opening avenues for innovative data analytics, DataHarvest sets the stage for a new era in agricultural research data management.
This presentation will outline the initial work, findings and opportunities for the DataHarvest project.
