Biography:
Matt Buys is a dynamic leader with a strong background in scaling global open infrastructure organizations. He was instrumental in establishing ORCID and DataCite as widely adopted scholarly infrastructures. As Executive Director of DataCite, Matt leads a dedicated team focused on empowering research by providing tools to create, find, cite, and connect research outputs—from data and software to DMPs and samples. His work is centered on building a sustainable, community-driven global network that advances open research practices, reflecting his passion for purpose-driven growth.
Abstract:
In the rapidly evolving landscape of scholarly communication, the integrity and accessibility of the scholarly record are paramount. This talk will explore how open metadata, persistent identifiers (PIDs), and interoperability standards can collectively enhance the rigor of scholarly outputs. By enabling precise citation, streamlined data integration, and improved discoverability, these tools support the advancement of knowledge across disciplines. The session will discuss practical strategies for implementing these technologies, emphasizing their role in fostering transparency, reproducibility, and long-term access to scholarly resources.
