Neither Fish Nor Fowl: Developing a Reusable Research Data + Copyright Training Module at Curtin University

Mr. John Brown1, Lydia Dawe1

1Curtin University, Australia

Biography:

John Brown is a Coordinator in the Research & Copyright Team at Curtin University Library, providing support to Curtin researchers in research data management.

Abstract:

Who in a University research support space is responsible when a query touches both on copyright and research data issues? These concerns often fall in the gaps between two well-established research support areas, with neither side feeling confident to help outside their well-known area of expertise.

Recognising this common issue and motivated by their recent participation in localising and adopting the Principles Aligned Institutionally-Contextualised Research Data Management Training (PAI-C), Curtin University has scoped and begun developing a local training module to cover the intersection of the two issues to help researchers understand the related concepts, issues and processes, and in the process will also create a sharable, localisable version for interested Australian Institutions to adapt and adopt.

This presentation will outline Curtin’s plan, process, and developments to date.
