XENON for Research Infrastructure
Researchers have been advancing their work with high performance computing, artificial intelligence and the tools of data science for decades now. XENON has been there every step of the way, providing the foundation in compute and data storage infrastructure which enables scientists to solve larger problems, faster.
XENON works closely with leading universities and research institutes to provide solutions which solve the complex compute issues required for modern research, including:
Services and Consulting
When universities and research institutes require additional expertise, they call on XENON. Our team delivers individual projects as well as ongoing infrastructure management services across Australia, New Zealand and SE Asia.
Individual projects have covered areas such as lifecycle planning, new cluster design, data protection and archive protocols, training in containerisation and HPC technologies. Ongoing managed services contracts are available for managing HPC clusters; performing updates, maintenance and cluster expansion; data management – backup and archive of large data sets.
XENON Cluster Stack
Making HPC clusters easy to maintain, manage, grow and expand is a key challenge for research teams. XENON has developed the XENON Cluster Stack™ to address this challenge. XENON Cluster Stack™ is a containerised framework for cluster operation and management, built on open source components in a cloud like framework that creates an agile cluster which can be better utilised by teams while also being easier to operate and manage. XENON Cluster Stack™ is available for clusters supplied by XENON, and can be retro-fit into existing clusters with XENON HPC Managed Services.

Success Stories
XENON has over 25 years of history in delivering solutions for researchers. From delivering the first GPU based high performance cluster in 2008, to recent clusters for environmental modelling and radio astronomy – XENON partners with researchers around Australia, New Zealand and SE Asia to deliver solutions that help researchers overcome previous limitations and solve new problems.

HPC has been critical to research both in academia and in the industry. Till recently, much is still based on command line job submission and debugging. Altair’s industry-leading HPC tools let you orchestrate, visualize, optimize, and analyze your most demanding workloads, easily migrating to the cloud and eliminating I/O bottlenecks. Top500 systems and small to mid-sized computing environments alike rely on Altair to keep their infrastructure running smoothly.
The ecosystem build around Altair’s PBS – one of the most matured and established software in workload management and resource scheduling- include a web based job submission portal (Access) and monitoring tools (Control) for jobs, nodes, memory, etc. In addition I/O profiling and telemetry are also available (Mistral, Breeze). These tools also allow HPC jobs to be deployed to the cloud in a seamless manner. The cloud bursting takes this one step beyond, where jobs can run on on-premise HPC hardware and also run in the cloud when the local hardware is busy.
On HPC systems or standalone, Altair has an end-to-end suite of Data Analytics solutions. The Data Preparation software Monarch has a matured and unique PDF reports extraction technology. Research papers and reports in Scientific or Engineering fields can be extracted into tabular formats for subsequent data transformation including joins, pivots, cleansing and manipulating columns of data with ease.
Using KnowledgeStudio, researchers in ML will benefit from GUI-based ML modelling without coding. The increasing list of ML models include AutoML, DecisionTrees, Regression, Neural Networks, XGBoost, etc.
For Engineers, Medical researchers and more, both Compose (Octave’s M-code compatible) and WPS (SAS language compatible) provide coding environments for rapid prototyping in building mathematical, engineering and statistical analysis code using M-code/SAS-language/Python/R in combination.
For engineers and scientists dealing with real-time data, Panopticon has no match in the industry in being the true real-time visualisation / dashboarding platform. The Streams component allows researchers to build formulas that operate on real-time data directly from the source.
