This session will provide an overview of the Sustainability Workshop series that was provided by the ARDC to all the Platforms projects in which it is investing. This series was based on a two-week intensive developed by the Science Gateways Community Institute in the US, but significantly customised for remote delivery over a two month period. The curriculum covered:
– Identifying the primary value that the project brings to its users and community
– Effectively communicating the value of the project visually and verbally
– Exploring and assessing the size and dimensions of audiences and stakeholders to better engage and serve them
– Defining competitors/potential collaborators and how to differentiate the product from theirs
– Using impact-driven goals to begin developing a budget and financial forecast
– Exploring different revenue types that can work within the academic & national research infrastructure world
– Principles of sales and marketing, and how to connect with their target audience to promote their platform and engage with users to improve it
– Designing infrastructure for sustainability: service and operation models and their resourcing requirements
The feedback about this curriculum and delivery methods have been extremely positive. The Platforms are now extending the sustainability pitches they developed during the series into well-informed sustainability plans. The session will look to include mini case-studies from up to three different projects.
