Abstract

The Australasian Leadership Computing Symposium (ALCS) is the premier forum for computing, data and AI leaders from across Australasia. This year, the program was packed with thought-provoking talks, panel discussions, networking opportunities, showcases and announcements over three days. National science luminaries shared experiences using supercomputing facilities to advance their research, discussed challenges on both the compute and data infrastructure, and projected technical requirements for the next generation of supercomputer facilities and services.

The symposium plenary sessions featured internationally renowned supercomputing leaders and researchers sharing design, implementation and application of cutting edge infrastructure. The future of HPCD-fuelled scientific research was manifestly on display, with world leading scientists and researchers sharing excitement and advances in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing. The breakout sessions covered five different streams from earth system science; molecular simulation and bioinformatics; astronomy; CFD; engineering and physics; and social science. This paper will provide a timely debrief on what was discussed at the symposium and the implications for the future planning at the tier1 national supercomputing facilities in Australia and New Zealand.
