Abstract

How do you provide and manage large scale cooperation between multiple disparate organisations and research groups? What can be done to streamline operational requirements and reduce risk to research outcomes? Are there ways to provide a dynamic service that can keep up with the continually changing requirements that commonly come from research. While these questions are large and complex, this workshop is designed to demonstrate at least in part what the Research Technology team at the University of Sydney has implemented to chip away at many of these issues.

Tailoring industry best practice of cloud native tools and process to create a dynamic research focused offering.

This workshop will start with a base VM and we will take you through installing and configuring a Kubernetes infrastructure, including common pain points like automation, scale, and services such as automated certificate management.

Once the infrastructure is in place a deployment of AIS XNAT will be implemented of which you will be the administrator of your own instance. The XNAT service will be configured ready for high end data storage as well as automated workflow.

Now you have a working XNAT service, data uploads simulating common lab practices and examples of automated pipelines for data pre-processing can be followed. If time permits some data visualisation and/or modelling can be performed.

During this workshop we will also be discussing pain points, reasoning for design decisions, advantages gained, future roadmap and any questions you may have.
