Abstract:

In 2023, NeSI launched the Research Developer Cloud, an OpenStack based cloud native platform for hosting research solutions. This presentation addresses NeSI’s key cloud tenants and their cloud use cases, and how NeSI and the research communities have worked together to build knowledge collaboratively and have shared insights across the various cloud tenants.

Some of the early tenants include research groups from Genomics Aotearoa, GNS Science, Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research, and AUGMENT. As NeSI worked together with the tenants on building and hosting various solutions together, common patterns emerged around both practices as well as technology solutions. The practices include various DevOps best practices, and technologies such as Kubernetes, Terraform, and Ansible were used to help provide the tenants build solutions in a robust manner.

This talk will touch on some of the tenant specific details including machine learning build pipelines built on the cloud and how NeSI is striving to capture knowledge and insights from each experience and share them back by building blueprints of repeatable patterns for recurring problems.
