Abstract:

Women in HPC+ Australasia and Women Coders are two communities with a shared purpose: ensuring women and allies have the skills, networks, and confidence to thrive in technical careers. This BoF brings them together for the first time at eResearch Australasia 2026 to explore what a stronger, more connected community could look like — and what it would take to build one.

The session has two concrete goals. First, to map the technical skill development needs of women working in or entering HPC and research computing environments. Second, to identify where the two communities can collaborate — through joint events, shared resources, or coordinated training pathways — to better serve those needs.

By the end of the session, participants will have contributed to a prioritised skills gap register, identified at least three areas for cross-community collaboration, and agreed on tangible next steps that both organisations can act on.

This is a working session, not a panel. Participants will move through structured activities including a facilitated needs mapping exercise and small group discussion, with outputs captured and shared back to all attendees post-event.

Anyone seeking technical support, skills pathways, or peer community in HPC, research software, or adjacent fields is welcome, regardless of career stage.
