A strategy for maturing a regional institution’s Digital Research capability

Southern Cross University is a smaller, regional, university with three campuses across two states, Queensland and New South Wales. This presentation describes the process through which a comprehensive digital research strategy was devised for the university. Detailed information on how consultation with researchers, IT, the library and the research office was carried out will be presented, in addition to the mechanisms used to generate senior management buy-in for the uplift in digital research capability. The strategy output, targetted to Southern Cross university, will be described, as will the current state of strategy implementation at the university. Challenges, wins and lessons learnt will be presented to inform other institutions as to the effort, the risks and the benefits realised through the strategy development and its implementation.


Biography:

Dr Frankie Stevens is a consultant in eResearch services, specialising in the application of advanced ICT to the practice of Research. Frankie’s leadership role in developing strong relationships between research communities, local, state and national eResearch infrastructure initiatives has involved broad awareness raising and promotion of expert capabilities for the Australian Research Sector. She is on the Technical Advisory Board for the Global Research Data Alliance, and the Executive Council of the Australian EResearch Organisations (AeRO).

Wendy Scott is the Senior Manager, Research Data, Analytics and Strategy at Southern Cross University. Wendy is Respected for innovative technology-based approaches and credited with boosting institutional reputation and managing collaborative projects within the Australian Higher Education sector.

Wendy is experienced in mapping research processes and driving research administration and research system improvements to meet strategic requirements.
