Abstract:
The Australian Imaging Service is the national digital infrastructure platform for secure data management, analysis, and publication and of biomedical imaging and related health data led by the University of Sydney in partnership with the National Imaging Facility and a federation of partner universities with support from ARDC, AAF, and AARNET.
With the launch of the NIF Foundational Digital Research Infrastructure project in 2025 along with a portfolio of sister projects under NIF, ARDC, & MRFF, AIS is rapidly expanding in team size, technology stack, and research capabilities.
To better manage the growing complexity, coordinate a geographically distributed team, and communicate with partner digital infrastructure teams, we have developed the AIS Reference Architectures on which individual partner solution architectures can be built to be validated by their internal governance, operations, and cyber teams.
The AIS master Helm Charts are being redesigned for improved modularity to facilitate partners’ improved flexibility in choosing which features and services they will offer at their institution. To better communicate to researchers the heterogeneity across partners, we have developed an initial tiering system across three categories: Research Features, Data Durability, and Data Sensitivity.
In this talk we will present the current AIS Reference Architecture, Helm Chart design, and AIS Maturity Model to share what we have learned and facilitate discussion and feedback from other communities.
