Abstract

The Centre of Excellence for Biosecurity & Risk Analysis is developing a Biosecurity Risk Research Portal to inform decision-making. The Portal addresses identified problems in the biosecurity sector, namely a. biosecurity research is not always published, or difficult to access; b. biosecurity participants ask questions different ways, with terminology varying between participants and between research literature; and c. identifying what effort is being put into which research areas, thereby revealing overlaps and gaps in research activity and outputs.

The poster describes functional modules that make up the Portal, including extraction from research repositories; augmentation of extracted metadata; transformation into exchange formats; loading into discovery and analytic applications via service endpoints. The poster also includes key stakeholder groups that support, and are helped by, the Portal functionality.

The Portal harvests research outputs and project metadata from university, government and industry repositories and websites. The Portal hopefully serves as a model for the extraction and transformation from multi-domain, open-access research, to meet domain-specific information needs.
