Clean, authentic data is essential for research. Ongoing research is becoming more prevalent as global megatrends like COVID-19, biotechnology and environmental sustainability drive the need to find answers.. In order to contribute sustainably to this journey, research organisations need to step up and master the lifecycle of research data management not only to meet current research needs, but to position themselves as leaders of delivering results, insights and wisdom for the future. Adopting a Data Fabric provides research organisations with the most versatile, efficient and sustainable approach to manage the full research data lifecycle. The data fabric is an architecture strategy and design concept that enables end-to-end visibility, traceability and security for all research data workloads, from ingestion through analysis to results. This session examines the positive impact and benefits of adopting the Data Fabric approach across and between research data. Hundreds of organisations that have adopted the Data Fabric have been able to accelerate results, and enjoy optimised predictability, agility, safety and cost efficiency for their data, along with raising their long-term sustainability against their peers. The session will be a journey through the Data Fabric, highlighting solutions for specific problems and roles, from scientists to information managers through to librarians and curators in a holistic and coherent manner across the research community. The conclusion can be drawn that the Data Fabric can benefit individuals and research projects across diverse types of research activities, locations, data formats and analytical processing models for any size research organisation.
