Biography:

Isabel Ceron is a Senior Policy Analyst at the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. She brings a deep understanding of the research infrastructure needs of the social sciences, through her involvement in a range of sector-shaping Academy initiatives, more recently, through her role as lead for the Decadal Plan for Social Science Research Infrastructure 2024-33.

Abstract:

In 2022, over 20 social science leaders from across Australia met in Canberra and online to evaluate the current state and future needs of research infrastructure in the sector, concluding that a cohesive vision and clearly defined goals were essential for driving the desired major advancements over the next decade. Eighteen months later (April 2024), the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and five partner organisations launched the first Decadal Plan for Social Science Research Infrastructure; a document that represented a consensus view of over 100 social science research and infrastructure experts from around the country.

In this session, the project lead will delve into the challenges of forging a unified vision for research infrastructure and the strategies that have proven effective thus far. This presentation will be of interest to professionals involved in the early stages of similar strategic initiatives and anyone with a keen interest in the future of social science research infrastructure in Australia.
