Abstract:

Situation: Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) Nectar Research Cloud (Nectar) is a Certified Kubernetes service provider. Nectar's self-service Kubernetes offering, Container Infrastructure as a Service (Magnum), helps users get started easily.

Since introducing the Kubernetes service in 2018, Nectar has been improving the service to fix bugs, keep up to date with Kubernetes deprecation cycle, and offer new features.

Task: This talk will give an overview of Nectar's effort over the last few years to improve Magnum.

It brings up some of the major changes to Nectar over the past few years, and why they were necessary to fundamentally fix some of the issues that kept Magnum back.

Action: We will cover a broad range of topics and answer some of the common user questions over the last few years. There will also be some deep dives into the technology stack.

Some topics are Container Network Interface (CNI), load balancers, robot accounts, upgrades, GPU support, latency issues.

We will also share our future plans for a Managed Kubernetes Service.

Result: Attendees can gain an up-to-date knowledge of Magnum service. There will also be time for feedback so that Magnum can be improved for the future.
