Australian Universities have identified Sensitive Data as one of the priority areas requiring joint guidance in order to manage risks to individuals, to environments, to corporate interests and to institutions. (ARDC Institutional Underpinnings, “Draft Framework Element: Sensitive Research Data” https://tinyurl.com/ardc-iu-draft ) There is a call for future collective action: to work towards consistency in the protections agreed to be required, and the protections currently in practice, for data across different classification levels.
Format:
* Presentation – A review of the Institutional Underpinnings program and Sensitive Data working group recommendations, including the calls for action. (5 mins)
* Presentation – Security protections in place and in planning on the ARDC Nectar Research Cloud (5 mins)
* Open QnA – questions and short discussions following presentation (5 mins)
* Discussion questions – participant contributed input on 3 topics for discussion/action:
1) How does your organisation bridge the gap between the assessment of risk in data and the cybersecurity protections required?
2) Many organisations already classify corporate data and collections. Is there a difference in what’s needed for *research* data? Or do we just need to present enterprise classifications in research terms?
3) How might we better align/engage/socialise researcher requirements (eg. trust, collaboration, RDM policies, research technologies) with cybersecurity communities of practice?
