Biography:

Tim Heap is a senior software engineer at CSIRO, specializing in the design and development of geospatial visualisation software. Their work focuses on building scalable and efficient solutions that support scientific research in the field of coastal modelling.

Abstract:

Manipulation and visualisation of large geospatial datasets has always been a challenge. With more and more models outputting their data in irregular or unstructured grid formats, keeping up with different model geometry conventions becomes an issue.

emsarray is a tool that can abstract away a lot of the complexities of managing and interoperating with these various conventions. It exposes a single interface in which to interrogate and retrieve the data we want without having to read the latest geometry convention white paper and takes the guess work out of interacting and visualising datasets. All of this in open source, with an extensible interface and excellent documentation.
