Paradoxically, virtual computational teaching laboratories come with more problems than associated with conventional online teaching not involving computers. In this talk I present my history of adventures trying to deliver online hands-on computational chemistry workshops, outlining the various issues involved and strategies to overcome them. Examples will be given of two recent successes: a computational chemistry Gaussian workshop leveraging NCI’s OOD infrastructure and a Beginner Python workshop held as part of the Software Sustainability Institute’s 2022 Research Software Bootcamp.
