Background and Method

The National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) is Australia’s preeminent computing facility, providing expert services and infrastructure to benefit all domains of science, government and industry. To address the increasing demand for training on digital tools/technologies that are extensively used by the current and prospective high-performance computing (HPC) users, and therefore to enhance the effective utilisation of its infrastructure, NCI has partnered with Intersect Australia to facilitate a comprehensive training program, which aims to upskill the HPC users on programming, machine learning, research computing and parallel programming.

Results

Since the inception of the program in November 2021, 810 researchers and professional staff  from 40+ different universities and research organisations across Australia have attended 34 courses. The program demonstrates high quality and is well received by the attendees. It has achieved a Net-Promoter Score (NPS) of +72 based on 278 responses (34% of attendees), which is considered outstanding.

We met with several attendees to capture their feedback and the direct impact of this training on their research. This further demonstrated and elucidated that this training program has supported researchers to more effectively and efficiently utilise cutting-edge tools and technologies, as well as NCI’s infrastructure, for their research.

Conclusion

We will present the key highlights and analytics of the NCI/Intersect partnership in detail along with participants’ feedback on the impact of this program. This partnership would be a beneficial component in supporting NCI to deliver high-end and enhanced computational capability and services to the Australian research sector.
