Abstract

The 2022 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap provides a clear path for Australia to build on strong existing foundations and deliver step-changes to support future national needs. The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) launched the People Research Data Commons (People RDC) in 2022-2023 to collaboratively develop and deliver sustainable digital research infrastructure for health and biomedical researchers on a national scale.

Many of the data challenges in health research arise from the sensitive nature of health data and jurisdictional and regulatory requirements that lead to a heterogenous digital infrastructure ecosystem. A nationwide consultation process identified the following four significant data challenges: “Data Strategy and Discovery”, “Secure Data Access”, “Data Integration”, and “Advanced Analysis”. The ability to deliver consistent practices, technical interoperability and common standards across this diversity will be a defining feature of the People RDC.

The ARDC is taking a co-design approach to implementing infrastructure through collaborative partnershipships with stakeholders from all parts of the health system with the aim of facilitating improvements in health research translation and research impact through data. In this presentation, we will outline our vision for the People RDC and the opportunities for stakeholder involvement.
