Biography:
Aleem is a virtualisation expert supporting reproducible research through containers, Kubernetes (as a certified Applications Developer) and FAIR software. Aleem holds a PhD in Information Systems. He has 12 years background in the telecommunications industry as an electronics engineer, and 7 years researching and teaching.
Abstract:
This session aims to showcase the Australian Research Container Orchestration Service (ARCOS) community’s effort, since its formation in 2000, in the form of an ARCOS paper 2. The community aims to promote containers and container orchestration in the Australian research sector. This session highlights the impact of the four tiered approach involving community awareness raising, best practices, user support, and user experience. At this meeting the community will have the opportunity to design and direct the future of ARCOS. Additionally, the session will also feature brief case studies of various research projects.
BoF Agenda:
- A brief update on this year’s ARCOS updates and future outlook. Celebrating the continued interest in the community with a proposed ARCOS paper 2 themed around the idea, “Adoption of Containers in Research Sector – a Community-driven Approach”. (15- 20 min)
- ARCOS champions program – The ARCOS champions intend to empower community members to spread awareness about containers in the research sector. Building upon strong community interest, this discussion aims to gather community feedback to further this program. (20 min)
- A short talk (5 to 10 mins) – The short talk aims to showcase how projects leverage containers to create greater research impact. Dr Mark Endrei will showcase projects undertaken at the University of Queensland to create research-enabling software.
