Abstract:
The Australian Internet Observatory (AIO – https://internetobservatory.org.au/) is a national research infrastructure facility established in 2024 through the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). The AIO mission is to build an interconnected ecosystem of people, data, and tools that enables research on digital platforms, applications and emerging technologies in the public interest.
One core aspect of AIO is the AIReD resource (https://www.aio.eresearch.unimelb.edu.au/) at The University of Melbourne. AIReD continually collects and makes available many diverse sources of social media data. This talk will highlight AIReD and how it underpinned the teaching of High Performance and Cloud Computing at the University of Melbourne to advanced Masters students. The AIReD platform and examples of student's use of the AIReD infrastructure will be presented.
