Abstract

Researchers are required to submit data management plans (DMPs) and obtain ethics clearance before they start a research project. They are also encouraged / required to publish and share their data. Universities are actively involved in helping researchers comply with policies and best practices, disseminating research outputs and monitoring compliance.

The University of Canberra (UC) has recently completed several projects aimed at providing researchers with a DMP platform that links with new and existing tools, as well engaging with UC researchers, outlining why and how to use DMP platforms.

In this talk, we highlight how UC tapped into PURE’s (data management platform) potential as a workflow tool by working closely with Elsevier, QCIF and Infonetica (ethics platform) to link its new DMP tool ReDBox to data manager and publishing tools Data Monitor and DC (Digital Commons) Data and to existing UC platforms, PURE and Infonetica.

We outline how UC then engaged with its research communities to navigate these new tools. We identified key researcher stakeholders: HDR [PhD] students, academic staff, and primary supervisors, and spoke with them within each of UC’s five faculties.

Finally, as part of the ARDC’s Institutional Underpinnings Project Phase I, we describe the guidelines and materials produced which cover our various system integrations and engagement strategies, available for other institutions which may facing similar DMP challenges, and we present the conclusion of an ambitious project we started in 2021.
