We invite practitioners, researchers, and educators from diverse disciplines to participate in the eResearch Australasia Conference 2013. Conference participants can opt to present workshops, presentations, point/counterpoint debates, birds of a feather sessions (BoF) or panels.
This year the conference theme is ‘Delivering eResearch for the Masses’ and will cover topic groups – Processing and analysing data; Managing, publishing, and finding data; The connected researcher; Tools for collecting, generating, and moving data; Case studies.

The RDSI Web Object Trial is now finished. We will be shutting down the WOS server on Friday April 12. Please ensure that you have removed any files that you want to keep from your WOS account by this date.
RDSI would greatly appreciate your feedback on the WOS system. In particular, did you find WOS intuitive to use? Were there features missing that you needed? Would you use this software with its larger space allocation as an alternative to commercial options e.g. Dropbox? If you prefer to use commercial software like Dropbox, what would encourage you to use WOS instead?
Everyone who was part of the trial is encouraged to provide us with feedback.

eResearch NZ 2013 will be held on Tuesday 2 – Thursday 4 July at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.
We welcome submissions for 5 minute lightning talks, 15 minute presentations, posters, and workshops and demonstrations of work underway or complete within the last year.

The AARNet CloudStor+ personal storage platform, currently in beta, has proven to be reassuringly stable over the course of the last few weeks; we’ve currently got 130 active beta testers onboarded. We think the platform is ready to scale out further now: while we currently run from a single node in Brisbane, we’ll be bringing up another fully synchronised node in Perth this week, and a Melbourne node is scheduled for later this month. These nodes will all be automatically synchronising between each other, and a mechanism will be in place to automatically direct you to the closest node. The performance difference of having the storage node physically close ought to be quite noticeable, and feedback on that aspect is very welcome!
Simultaneously, we’re working on rolling out a mechanism for charging for usage above the free per-user allotment on an institutional basis; we’re also about to update the user interface package (called ownCloud) which should provide for improved group/sharing facilities, as well as deliver further speed gains for the desktop synchronising clients.

The Research Data Alliance was officially launched on March 18th 2013 in Gothenburg in Sweden. A group of data enthusiasts from Australia, Europe and the USA has been working hard for the last six months to bring this about. The Australian contingent on the Organising Group comprises Stefanie Kethers, Andrew Treloar, and Ross Wilkinson (all from ANDS)
The launch was addressed by a range of government officials including Neelie Kroes, Vice President of the European Commission responsible for the Digital Agenda for Europe, His Excellency Mr Duncan Lewis AO DSC CSC, Australian Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, the European Union and NATO, and Farnam Jahanian, Director for CISE, National Science Foundation, USA. They all, in various ways, made the point that data will be critical to national prosperity over the coming decades.
The Research Data Alliance is an organisation that aims to accelerate and facilitate research data sharing and exchange. Further details at rd-alliance.org.
The Australian eResearch Organisations (AeRO) have been delivering the national Data Fabric research storage service since 2011. AeRO wish to advise researchers that the systems providing the national Data Fabric service have reached the end of their life and this service will close on 19th April 2013. Consequently all researchers are being asked to remove all valuable data to alternative storage locations before 19th April 2013.
AeRO are happy to help researchers during this migration. Researchers who require assistance are asked to contact their State based AeRO using the details provided below:

The International Semantic Web Conference, chaired by Chris Welty of IBM will be held in Sydney, October 21-25. 2013. ISWC 2013 is the premier international forum for the Semantic Web / Linked Data Community. Here, scientists, industry specialists, and practitioners meet to discuss the future of practical, scalable, user-friendly, and game changing solutions.
