The Australian Earth System Simulator (ACCESS-NRI) is a national research Infrastructure created to support model development and research with the Australian Community Climate and Earth System Simulator (ACCESS) modelling system. The ACCESS suite of models are essential tools used to simulate past and future climate, weather and Earth systems and to support research and decision making. In 2021, ACCESS became a National Research Infrastructure (NRI) facility through funding from the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) Program and officially launched in June 2022. This facility is a major collaborative undertaking between the Bureau of Meteorology, CSIRO and five Australian universities, in collaboration with national and international partners.

The ACCESS-NRI mission is to build a collaborative research infrastructure that will accelerate research in Earth system, climate and weather and enable new research not currently possible. This includes helping to make the ACCESS model suite accessible to all Australian researchers, enabling more efficient computing and data resources, and positioning Australia to benefit from new computing technologies ahead. ACCESS-NRI will achieve these goals through a strong focus on open development, and an emphasis on continuous and deep community engagement.

Biography:

Kelsey Druken joined ACCESS-NRI in June as the Associate Director Release Management. Prior to this, she was the Associate Director of Data Management at NCI helping to make FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) national reference datasets available for high-performance compute (HPC) and high-performance data (HPD) research. She received a PhD in Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island (USA) and has a research background in geodynamics.
