Biography:
James Foster is a Senior Research Scientist at CSIRO within the Energy Systems research program. He is a specialist in mathematical optimisation and data analytics applied to energy systems.
Abstract:
The current energy transition has exposed a strong need to place Australian industry and institutes of research at the forefront of open power system modelling practices. Organisations currently undertaking power system modelling face significant barriers in terms of inflexible infrastructure and licencing costs, interoperability of software and modelling systems, and proprietary data. I will describe our community-oriented programme to develop open datasets, efficient data-processing tools, complexity reduction methods and high-performance software for accelerating workflows, and how we will steer a course for a more robust energy sector.
