Pathfinder for a Trust and Identity Framework and Infrastructure for NCRIS

Mr Heath Marks, Mr Richard Northam

1Australian Access Federation, Brisbane, Australia

Background

In 2020 the Australian Access Federation (AAF) released Making the Case, which identified a need for a system wide approach to Trust and Identity (T&I) for NCRIS and the broader research system. The AAF recently received funding from the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) for a T&I program.

This BoF session will engage with the audience to help shape priorities for this pathfinder program.

Actions

This program will deliver outputs to support  T&I including a national framework and infrastructure for NCRIS capabilities. Longer term outcomes include more secure research infrastructure, a consistent authentication experience, and global connectivity for Australian researchers.

The program will accelerate adoption of cutting-edge trust and identity solutions to prepare for future cybersecurity risks and technology disruptors.

Solution

The program includes accelerator and incubator streams that will investigate and implement T&I solutions. In this session we are keen to hear from the community to understand their challenges and how AAF can help move T&I forward in support of national research services.

Conclusion

All NCRIS capabilities are invited to help AAF shape thenational T&I framework to support the research community’s needs. We are looking to work with capabilities that are ready to adopt a national approach to T&I, enabling their researchers to easily access the research infrastructure and collaborate with their peers globally.
